Day 9: Monochrome - Streets of Boston

Day 9: Monochrome - Streets of Boston

For today’s challenge, I was tasked with making a monochrome map. For my subject, I decided to make a simple, minimalist style roadways map of the Greater Boston area. I decided to a simple but effective black and white color scheme, using white to represent land, and black to represent roadways and water. For areas with bridges, I added a thin border so that a viewer can still make them out.

For my data, I used the National Wetlands Inventory polygon water dataset for Massachusetts to provide oceans, rivers, and waterways. For my roads data, I incorporated a roads centerline shapefile from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). Below is my resulting map.
