30 Day Map Challenge 2020: Day 1
DAY 1: POINTS
Subject: City of Baltimore Racial and Ethnic Dot Density Map
Method: Dot Density Symbology
Tools: ArcGIS Pro
Data: US Census Bureau (2010)
This map uses US Census Bureau race and ethnicity data from 2010 at the census tract level to show the distribution of residents by race and ethnicity across the City of Baltimore, Maryland. Each dot represents 1 individual, with the color of the dot corresponding to a race or ethnicity.
One of the things that jumps out visually is just how racially segregated Baltimore is. This is a common feature throughout cities in the United States and is not accidental, but often the result of unfair and racist lending practices and redlining.
